Jerrod Carmichael and Premieres: A thread published on Twitter on 4/1/22

Updated: May 17, 2023

Welcome to the final day of Jerrod Carmichael week with the #BoBurnhamHistorian!

Tonight is THE night (9 PM ET) for the premiere of Rothaniel, Jerrod's newest special directed by Bo Burnham.

And, while it seems unlikely they'll have a big premiere party in LA today, I thought it would be fun to look at the shindigs Jerrod hosted/attended in the Before Times.

1. 8

We begin with Jerrod's most recent comedy special prior to Rothaniel, the simply titled 8.

For the 8 premiere, HBO teamed up with Paper Magazine and created a huge cereal bar with an assortment of breakfast cereals (you can spot a very tall Bo in this pic!).

In addition to Bo attending (obviously), some other famous celebrities dropped by, including Usher and Tyler, the Creator.

Fun fact: Usher also appears in Lorene's film Hustlers as himself!

And Tyler is one of Jerrod's best friends. Jerrod even did the narration for IGOR, and he interviewed Tyler about Flower Boy.

2. Eighth Grade

Another fun movie premiere that Jerrod attended was the Eighth Grade LA Premiere.

Bo's feature film debut had a middle school theme, including a carnival, food trucks, and a school dance!

Per this Variety article, "the evening continued with a full-on middle school dance in the gymnasium, with a DJ blasting 'Mambo No. 5' as partygoers like Dylan O’Brien and Alia Shawkat grabbed some punch" (the choice of Lou Bega is Classic Bo!)

Other famous attendees included Garfunkel and Oates (Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci), Nick Kroll, and Gillian Jacobs (whom Bo acted with in Adventures in the Sin Bin).

Here's an article from the LA Times about that night (with Bo telling some middle schoolers to "choose your drugs wisely" lol).

3. Neighbors

In addition to 8 and Eighth Grade, Jerrod attended the Neighbors premiere (he plays Garf in this and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising).

4. Transformers

And he appeared at the Transformers: The Last Knight premiere (he plays Jimmy in the Michael Bay flick).

5. The Meddler

Finally, Jerrod also acted in Lorene's film The Meddler (he plays Freddy). Here's an adorable prom-style photo of the two of them at the premiere!

6. Ramy

In addition to his comedy specials and film roles, Jerrod is the EP of the brilliant show Ramy (a fact I just found out about this week!)

Here's Jerrod at various events for Ramy with Ramy Youssef, the star of the show.

There's a wonderful Hollywood Roundtable Comedy Showrunner discussion that features Jerrod (Bill Hader's in this as well for any Barry fans!).

Here's a clip of Jerrod talking about representation in Hollywood:

FYI: Ramy Youssef is an amazing comedian himself, and I highly recommend his special and Hulu series.

UPDATE: Both Jerrod and Ramy are in Yorgos Lanthimos' Poor Things, which premieres in 2023!

That's all the premieres I could find relating to Jerrod.

Thanks for reading, and make sure to watch Rothaniel tonight on HBO Max (squee!!) and SNL tomorrow (April 2)!
